Osasuna achieved an important victory against Girona (2-1). El Sadar, which cheered on their team throughout the match, Budimir and Ibáñez’s goals and a solid defensive performance gave the three points to the reds.
The match started with Osasuna quickly reaching the opponent’s area through wing crosses. Budimir and Rubén García had the first dangerous shots, but the defense and Gazzaniga prevented the reds from scoring. As the minutes passed, Girona gained more control of possession, and Danjuma scored, but the goal was disallowed for offside. The reds reacted and had good chances in fast transitions. Aimar had a good shot from outside the box saved by the visiting goalkeeper, and Budimir had the best opportunity, but his shot from a Gazzaniga rebound went wide. Girona responded with a dangerous direct free-kick that Sergio Herrera had to save, however, Osasuna took the lead 1-0 with a precise cross from Aimar headed in by Budimir. Towards the end of the first half, Girona had another chance with a close-range shot cleared off the line by Boyomo.
In the second half, the team led by Vicente Moreno started searching for the second goal and had several approaches to the visitor’s area that couldn’t be converted into clear shots. Girona regained possession, but the defense prevented clear chances, and the opportunities were limited to long-range shots and wing crosses that the defense and Sergio Herrera managed to handle. Stuani scored from a rebound, but it was again disallowed for offside. With the substitutions, the team regained energy and approached Gazzaniga’s area again, and Ibáñez scored the 2-0 with a precise shot from outside the box. In the final minutes, Girona pushed forward, and Asprilla reduced the deficit with a powerful long-range shot, but the reds secured the final victory.
With this win, Osasuna reaches 38 points after 31 matchdays of LALIGA EA Sports. The next match for the reds will be on Sunday, April 20, at 14:00, visiting Real Valladolid at Estadio José Zorrilla.
